What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants consist of titanium screws that are surgically implanted into the bone. Structurally, they act as tooth roots in place of the missing tooth. The first phase of the dental implant process is assessing oral health to make sure that the patient’s mouth can support dental implants in its current state. If oral health is not ideal, we will recommend various procedures, including bone grafting and sinus lifting, to make the mouth more able to support dental implants properly. Dental implants have a very high success rate, but strong jaw bone and healthy soft tissues are essential for improving the likelihood of success.

Dental Implant Placement

Once we have addressed any health issues that might restrict access to dental implants, surgical implant placement is scheduled. The dental implants are placed into the bone, and are allowed to heal for three to six months until they have integrated with the bone. The bonding of the implant with the bone helps prevent bone deterioration. When healing is complete, creation and placement of the crown, bridge, or denture atop the dental implant or implants completes the treatment.

Dental Implant Restorations

Once the dental implants have healed, Dr. Robert Pham will provide the patient with completely customized dental implant restorations that fit the specific tooth loss pattern. These dental implant restorations will be designed to give not only functional satisfaction, but aesthetic satisfaction as well. Dr. Pham will help explore all of the tooth replacement options prior to making a decision.
